Union workers at Momentive Performance Materials Inc. approved a new three-year contract for its hourly workers in Waterford, NY and Willoughby, Ohio.
The company, which makes adhesives, sealants and chemical resins used in the automotive, electronics and energy sectors, did not outline details of the new contract. Momentive officials announced Wednesday night that a contract had been approved. The previous contract expired on June 16.
A Momentive executive said just before contract negotiations began that the cost of the union's pension plan and health care benefits were not competitive with benefit packages offered by others in the industry.
A union steward said in June that members of the IUE-CWA local 81359 would resist any effort to get rid of pensions.
Momentive employs about 1,000 people at its Waterford, NY plant including hourly and salaried staff.
