Broward Cultural Division joins hundreds of arts organizations and communities nationally this month in celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM). Arts organizations and communities are asked to recognize the many ways that arts and culture enhance lives. More than 400 NAHM events are happening across the United States, so join in by attending the theater or other cultural event, taking a ceramics or dance class, or singing songs with your kids. Join in with this coast-to-coast collective recognition!
National Arts and Humanities Month is designed to encourage all Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of active participation in the arts and humanities.
In honor of NAHM, Broward Cultural Division and Business for the Arts of Broward celebrate with a unique event in October. The 27th Annual Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year event, presented by Title Sponsor, Florida Power & Light, will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 6 p.m., at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Other arts and cultural happenings in the Broward County this month will include Creative Conversations, a series of informational sessions in support of Creative Capital?s Real Community Engagement workshop; and an exhibition in the Governmental Center lobby in downtown Fort Lauderdale featuring information on the National Arts and Humanities month, and a sculpture by Haitian artist Carl Craig, showcasing a sample of the Full Sails in Fort Lauderdale Public Art Project, will be on exhibit through November.
Every day we celebrate the arts, but October is the month to commemorate the arts in a big way. It is the largest annual celebration for the arts and humanities in the nation! From hosting a Creative Conversation or arts center open house to securing a mayoral proclamation or better newspaper coverage of the arts, people in every community across the United States can celebrate NAHM by helping recognize the contributions of cultural organizations in their region.
