(AP) ? Jim Leyland insisted throughout the latter part of the season that there would be a time and a place to discuss his managing future.

That moment came Tuesday ? when the Detroit Tigers announced Leyland would be back in 2013 with a one-year contract extension.

"I really don't know why this is such a shock to everybody, because we told everybody that we weren't going to talk about this until after the season," Leyland said. "It's not even 48 hours and it's done. I think it was pretty much exactly like we had planned it."

The Tigers and their manager quickly ended any remaining speculation about his status, just two days after Detroit was swept by the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. Leyland was managing on a one-year deal this year as well ? and he seems comfortable taking his future year by year at this point in his career.

"I'm going to be here in 2013, and we'll take that from there," Leyland said. "I wanted to manage, but I did think long and hard about it, because I wanted to make sure that I was going to be doing everything that you need to do to continue to keep this club headed in the right direction."

The 67-year-old Leyland leads all active managers with 1,676 wins, a total that puts him 15th on the career list. Next season will be his 22nd as a major league manager and his eighth in Detroit. He's led the Tigers to the postseason three times and the World Series twice.

Leyland's coaching staff is also expected back, although some roles within it could be altered.

By the time the World Series started, general manager Dave Dombrowski had indicated Leyland would be welcome back in 2013, but both the manager and GM sought to postpone any public discussion of his status until after the season.

"I think he pretty much understood that we wanted him back, but it was not something that he really wanted to talk about," Dombrowski said. "When you know somebody for an extended time, you know what areas you prefer to leave untouched ? you don't talk about certain things until it's that time."

Detroit faced high expectations this year after signing slugger Prince Fielder in the offseason. By mid-September, Leyland's future seemed uncertain as the Tigers struggled to keep pace in the AL Central, but they overtook the Chicago White Sox to win the division and then beat Oakland and the New York Yankees in the American League playoffs.

Despite the poor showing in the World Series, it was a happy enough ending for Leyland, who is well aware of the occasional criticism from fans and talk-show callers when things aren't going well.

"Probably 'Tom in Royal Oak' isn't too happy right now, but that's OK." Leyland said. "That's just the way it goes. I'm sorry Tom, but I'm back."

With Leyland remaining in charge, the Tigers can turn their attention to the rest of the offseason. They exercised a $6 million option on shortstop Jhonny Peralta and a $3.5 million option on RHP Octavio Dotel. Each had carried a $500,000 buyout.

Detroit is prepared to let closer Jose Valverde and designated hitter Delmon Young leave via free agency. Valverde had a poor postseason, and Young's spot will be taken by Victor Martinez, who is set to return next year from the knee injury that kept him out all of 2012.

The Tigers will try to re-sign free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez, but he figures to be one of the top starting pitchers on the market.

"I had a great conversation with him the other night," Leyland said. "I told him, 'This is your chance, chase it, be happy. ... I'm telling you right now to your face, I really want you back. But this is your time. Go take advantage of it.'"

Dombrowski sounded confident Detroit might find an in-house candidate to close next year in Valverde's absence. The Tigers still have right-hander Joaquin Benoit in their bullpen.

Minor leaguer Bruce Rondon has turned heads, too.

"People don't sometimes believe this, but it is true. He averages 100 miles an hour and topped off at 103, and throws his breaking stuff for consistent strikes," Dombrowski said. "This guy is a special potential closer with the makeup of a closer, and normally you're not going to thrust that in a young guy's hands and say automatically, 'It's your job' ? but it would not surprise me if he earned that job. With the number of good arms that are out there, there are not many arms like this, and he cherishes that type of role."

Detroit also has several regular players eligible for arbitration, which could inflate the payroll. Among them are catcher Alex Avila, reliever Phil Coke, center fielder Austin Jackson and starters Doug Fister, Rick Porcello and Max Scherzer.

How animals deal with downpours

With the rainy season now in full force across much of the United States, animals both in the wild and at zoos are coming up with some unique ways to cope.

How animals react can depend on three basic things: the species, the individual's personality and the animal's access to human-made shelter and goods.

Outside of humans, orangutans have come up with some of the primate world's best ways of dealing with rain. Orangutans live in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra, where dampness is part of the landscape.

In the forest during storms, orangutans will make protective canopies and "hats" out of leaves, but in zoos, they have found a more attractive material.

BLOG: Snub-Nosed Monkey Sneezes When It Rains

"Here in Seattle, rain is virtually an everyday occurrence," Gigi Allianic, spokesperson for Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, told Discovery News. "Our orangutans wrap burlap bags around themselves and often just sit out storms. Like many of our other animals, they also have the option to retreat to an enclosure."

Most terrestrial animals do seek shelter. In nature, that can happen in tree or log holes, under rocks or leaves, or underground. Smaller animals like squirrels and mice will huddle together in such shelters, attempting to stay warm.

Rain seems to annoy most species, however, even aquatic animals. During torrential downpours, animals such as frogs, turtles and fish may retreat to lower levels of lakes and ponds, with some seeking added shelter under things like fallen rocks or driftwood.

Numerous animals, however, often remain out in the open and try to tolerate the wet.

"Grizzly bears at our zoo will often do that, even though they can go into an enclosure," Allianic said, adding that bears are very good swimmers.

PHOTOS: Hurricane Sandy's Path of Destruction

Reptiles possess scaly skin composed of a protein called keratin. This allows reptile skin to have waterproof qualities while still remaining properly hydrated.

"Crocodiles are pretty good at dealing with inclement weather," Nick Hanna, assistant curator at Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans, told Discovery News. "They remain calm and cool and never freak out, even during hard rains."

Some animals do lose their cool, but not necessarily because of rain.

    1. Sleuth finds the truth in ghost stories

Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: Paranormal investigator Joe Nickell has busted a lot of ghostly myths over the past 40 years ? but the spookiest part of his job comes when he actually catches a ghost red-handed.

    2. How to eat a Triceratops in 4 easy steps
    3. Why dinosaurs showed off their feathers
    4. Fukushima fish still radioactive

"We've learned that, for certain animals, it's better and safer to leave them out instead of in," Hanna said. "When confined, ostriches tend to run into walls. African antelopes sometimes get so spooked that they will also run into walls."

These species, though, still have access to off-exhibit areas and canopies to shield them from sun and rain.

In certain cases, how an animal reacts has more to do with its individual personality. Hanna and Allianic indicated that some primates and elephants fare better than others during rainstorms, particularly when thunder and lightning are involved.

NEWS: What Are the Risks from Hurricane Sandy?

"More skittish individuals can get spooked, and they will tend to retreat indoors," Allianic explained. "Even big elephants and great apes can be like dogs and cats when it comes to reacting to thunder and lightning."

While animals can try to get away from such loud noises, some may invariably become soaking wet.

The good news is that furry animals, such as giant pandas, tigers, brown bears, kangaroos and more, have all evolved an ability to shake themselves dry in mere seconds.

Recently, Andrew Dickerson of the Georgia Institute of Technology alongside colleagues Zachary Mills and David Hu determined that this shaking is tuned to the perfect frequency for each species, in terms of its size and anatomy. Loose skin tissue turns out to serve an important role.

"By whipping around the body, it increases the speed of drops leaving the animal and the ensuing dryness relative to tight dermal tissue," Dickerson and his team explained.

The finding also helps to explain why everything else around the dog during a shakedown usually gets wet, while the dog ends up dry.

Mitt Romney's Expanding Map: Desperation or Realization?

Why are GOP outside groups and the Romney campaign starting to spend money and time moving into blue territory such as Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Michigan?

Get more pure politics at ABCNews.com/Politics and a lighter take on the news at OTUSNews.com .

Here are some theories:

1. Ohio is a lost cause so Team Romney needs another path to 270: Despite the plethora of media polls showing Obama ahead in the Buckeye state, GOPers not affiliated with the Romney campaign say they have polling showing a dead heat or Romney slightly ahead. In that vein, we are left to wonder whether Romney's decision to run a blatantly false ad in Toledo - re: Jeep factory moving to China - is a hail Mary or a way to try and tip this very tight contest?

2. Better Bang for the Buck: Campaigns and the outside groups have lots of money to spend and not a lot of places to spend it.

Not only is it prohibitively expensive to try to buy last-minute ad time in places such as Ohio and Virginia, there simply might not be any ad time to buy. TV stations have to make ad time available to campaigns, but not to outside groups. Moreover, the TV stations aren't required to provide the most-highly desired times (like prime time or morning time) to candidates.

If an outside group wants to get the biggest bang for its buck, states such as Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Michigan is where they'll get it.

3. Trying to Make Something Out of Demographics: What do Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Michigan have in common?

Vote in 2008:

National = 74 percent white

Pa. = 81 percent white;

Minn. = 90 percent white

Mich. = 82 percent white

Latest ABC News-Washington Post tracker, Romney gets 57 percent of the white vote, including 60 percent of white men

4. Trying to Keep Momentum Storyline Going Even Though Momentum Is Gone:

As our tracking poll has shown, whatever momentum Romney had last week has stalled. So, what better way to keep the "momentum" storyline going than to show a campaign confident enough to expand the map.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases [Hive Five]

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases If you're building a new system, one of the first decisions you have to make is what case you plan to use to house all of your components. There are a lot of things to consider: bang for your buck, overall size, expansion bays, ease of installation, cooling and airflow, the list goes on. This week, we're going to look at five of the best desktop computer cases, based on your nominations.

Earlier in the week we asked you which desktop cases you think are the best. We could have broken this into categories, like "best case for watercooling, best gaming case, best case for this or that," but we figured you would have some good all-around suggestions, and you came through with way more cases that are great for all types of builds than we could possibly feature. Even so, five of them did stand out above the rest. Let's take a look, and when you're ready to move on to the rest of your build, head over to our freshly updated PC build guides to see what we think you should toss in your new case.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases

Cooler Master HAF X

The HAF X?and indeed, the entire HAF series?earned high praise from you for being roomy cases with lots of expansion bays and plenty of space for after-market coolers, watercooling, and multiple huge high-end video cards?all without getting so cramped that it's difficult to get to a component you need to repair or replace. The monster door fan will lift warm air right off of your board and CPU, and there's plenty of room for fans elsewhere in the case too. The front-side I/O ports are a nice bonus, as is the power supply cable partition that keeps unused cables out of sight. Bonus: you won't need a screwdriver for much with this case?most components pop and slide open easily for installation or removal. The HAF X is a pricey chassis though?it'll set you back $180 at Newegg. If that's too much, consider the cheaper (but also well liked) HAF 932 chassis for $150, or the budget-friendly HAF 912 case for for $60.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases

Fractal Design Define Mini

Fractal Design's cases are built for enthusiasts who want their computers to be sleek, modern, and minimal?not in features, just without all of the windows, mesh, LEDs, and blinking lights that other manufacturers have. Those of you who nominated the Define Mini all said the same thing: It's a computer case "for adults." You're not missing out on features by going grown-up, either. The Define Mini may be built for Mini ITX and Micro ATX boards, but it'll definitely keep your system cool and offer you plenty of drive bays and expansion slots for drives and graphics cards. The case also sports a built-in fan controller and two 120mm fans, and the side panels feature noise-absorbing material to keep your rig nice and quiet. Front access to the drive bays is a nice touch, and the top-side I/O is unobtrusive but functional. If you want one for your next build, it'll set you back $100 at Newegg. Need a little more room? Step over to the $90 Fractal Design Arc Midi, an ATX mid-tower with less focus on silent running, but more space to move, a lower-price point, and great features, to boot.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases

Corsair Obsidian 800D

The Corsair Obsidian series, not just the 800D, is a great range of richly featured full-sized tower cases that give you room to maneuver and a solid build designed to last for multiple system builds. The aluminum and steel body of the 800D makes for a lightweight case as well regardless of its size, and its size works to its advantage; Corsair has separate "cooling zones" inside the case to keep your power supply, CPU, graphics cards, and hard drives independently chilly, thanks to smart airflow design and separate fans. Cables won't get in the way, thanks to rubber cable management slots all over that make routing them easy. The case comes with three 140mm fans, and sports tool-free installation for hard drives and components, including hot-swappable drive bays so you don't have to take the windowed (or meshed) case door off. Front-side I/O offers access to USB, Firewire, audio, and power without being too intrusive, keeping the design and lines nice and clean. The Obsidian is another pricey case, going for $280 at Newegg. If you want some of those same features without the premium price, check out the rest of the Obsidian chassis family.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases

Antec Nine Hundred

Antec makes great cases, there's no doubt about that, but many of you really preferred the Nine Hundred, and we can see why. it's a solid case, and even though it's targeted to gamers, you don't have to be one to appreciate it. There's plenty of room inside for your components (standard ATX or smaller), seven expansion slots, two front-side 120mm fans and a massive 200mm fan at the top of the case, a fan controller to manage them, top-mounted I/O for USB, power, audio, and Firewire, along with a handy top drawer for a music player, smartphone, or external hard drive. Don't let the angled design fool you?there's plenty of room inside and outside this chassis. The Nine Hundred isn't terribly expensive; it'll set you back $100 at Newegg. If you have a little more to spend, consider the also nominated and well-loved Antec Twelve Hundred for $160.

Five Best Desktop Computer Cases

Corsair Graphite 600T

Another Corsair? Well, your nominations warranted it: the Corsair Graphite 600T is a more streamlined and less frilly model than some of Corsair's other chassis families. It's a mid-tower, but it's remarkably roomy considering its 8 expansion slots and 10 total drive bays (four 5.25" and six 3.5"). Plus, the case sports those rubber cable management slots that make wrangling cables or watercooling so easy, and tool-free installation and swappable trays. The steel case is sturdy, and for your money you'll get a chassis that should last you a couple of builds. It's sharp matte black with a few plastic accents, and comes packed with 2 120mm fans and a 200mm fan positioned to keep your components cool, along with room for plenty more. The top-side I/O port offers quick access to USB ports, audio ports, power, Firewire, and the fan controller so you can control performance versus noise with a single knob. The price on the 600T varies depending on whether you want it in white or black, with a window on the side or with a mesh case door. The standard model will set you back $160 at Newegg, but the one with the door window and gray accents will cost you $180. Want it in white? That'll also be $180. For more options, check out the rest of the Graphite series.

Now that you've seen the top five, it's time to vote for the all-out winner:

Honorable mentions this week go out to Lian Li's cases, which were extremely popular, but no specific model or SKU was popular enough to make the top five. All of them combined would have made a good run for the top, though. Those of you who nominated Lian Li models all noted their lightweight aluminum designs, sleek and modern looks, and cool, roomy interiors.

Also worth mentioning is the Corsair Carbide Series, especially the Carbide 500R, which many of you praised highly for its superior design and airflow. We even chose the Carbide 400R for our enthusiast build in our own PC build guides, so they're worth checking out.

Finally, I have to give a personal nod to the Thermaltake Level 10 Series, mostly because I still love really shiny and unique-looking PC case designs, and as reader ender89 pointed out, "Not because its the best, or the cheapest, or the fanciest, but because a bunch of engineers went into a room and a work of art came out. and that is something to celebrate." Hear hear.

Have something to say about one of the contenders? Want to make the case for your personal favorite, even if it wasn't included in the list? Remember, the top five are based on your most popular nominations from the call for contenders thread from earlier in the week. Make your case for your favorite?or alternative?in the discussions below. Also, don't forget that we just updated our $600 and $1200 PC build guides, so if you're looking for components to go with your favorite case, we have you covered there too.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it?it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!

Making Sense of Equipment Financing | The Business Finance Store

Equipment financing refers to buying or leasing equipment needed to operate your business and make a profit. Mainly, there are 4 ways of equipment financing:

?

Nowadays, the most commonly used method is equipment leasing. Approximately 80 percent of US companies lease equipment. Thus, let?s focus on this aspect of equipment financing, as you?ll likely end up taking this route.

Types of Equipment Leases

There are 2 types of equipment leases: capital leases and operating leases. The difference between these two is that a capital lease will be shown on the balance sheet as an asset of the company while an operating lease is an expense on the income statement. For a capital lease, you make a monthly payment during the lease period and buy the equipment from leasing agencies at a reasonable price.

Benefits of Equipment Leases

There are several benefits of equipment leases. These include the following:

  • Lower monthly payments as compared to a loan
  • Tax advantages
  • Fixed-rate financing
  • No down-payment
  • Immediate access to the latest equipment

?

Drawbacks of Equipment Leases

On the down side, you may have difficulty leasing equipment in the early stages of your business, as you it won?t have much credit to leverage. Also, the total payment in the long run is higher for some equipment. Additionally, the commitment of maintaining a piece of equipment for a long period of time may not be worth it if the technology changes quickly in your industry. This could be especially true in cases of information technology, given the rapid evolution of such devices.

Also, be wary of open-ended lease agreements, as they can involve hefty balloon payments and may require you to pay the difference if you return the item at value that is lower than stated in the contract. Thus, closed-ended lease agreements are typically the only type you should consider, but be sure to read the fine print in either case.

Where to Get an Equipment Lease

When it comes time to obtain an equipment lease, you can do so through the following options:

  • Banks
  • Brokers/Packagers
  • Captive leasing companies
  • Equipment dealers and distributors (subsidiaries of equipment manufacturers or other firms)
  • Independent leasing companies

?

The Bottom Line

Equipment financing can be achieved through an equipment lease, equipment loan, equipment sale and leaseback or a municipal equipment lease. The most common type of equipment financing is an equipment lease, given that approximately 80 percent of US businesses lease at least some equipment. With it, you?ll get benefits such as lower monthly payments and fixed-rate financing, but the downsides include difficulty obtaining a lease and a higher payment in the long run. Thus, be careful before signing on the dotted line with an equipment lease or any other form of equipment financing for that matter.

9 History freewheels on Kuwaits roads

The Historical, Vintage and Classic Cars Museum of Kuwait launched its new events season for 2012 with a magnificent car parade on Wednesday that featured historical and vintage cars and also some cars from the museum teams. The parade from the Kuwait Towers to the Museum passed along the Arabian Gulf Street to announce the launch of the new season of Museum events. The Museum plays a vital role in showcasing the rich cultural heritage and historical tradition of Kuwait, especially in the historical automotive sector. The country is considered the richest in the world in this domain. The main aim in establishing the museum was to document all the automotive information and connect the current and future generations to their past and urge them to complete the journey of our great civilization.

The Director of the Committees at the museum, Mustafa Makhseed, said while the museum has many goals, the main goal was the preservation of Kuwaiti heritage vehicles connected to historical events. Today, the Museum is one of the main tourist attractions, all because of the support of Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah, the true supporter and sponsor of the museum and all its activities. He expressed gratefulness towards Sheikh Nasser for his efforts, and also thanked Abdulaziz Saud Ishaq, member of the Board of Trustees, for his valuable advice that inspires the Museum management to excel itself in all events and activities. Fuad Saleem, the Director of the Coordination, said the museum is a centre for car enthusiasts and owners as they get all the information that they need about the world of automobiles. He said the museum?s doors were open to the public, private organizations and companies and is also happy to cooperate with all governmental sectors, agencies, companies and institutions in Kuwait, the Middle East and across the world.

Wael Muqadam, the Director of Technical Committee, said that the museum offers many services to the community, such as technical sessions about a variety of automobile related knowledge, and will also dispense advice and guidance to owners wanting to restore their valuable vehicles. Fadel Al-Oraier, the Director of the Library, said the Museum?s library has a number of general and reference books covering many types of automotives, as well as magazines, periodicals and Internet services.

Director of the Events and Enthusiasts Nasser Al-Shimaly said that many car enthusiasts and owners were waiting for the new season of events to start. He said the museum will organize periodic activities with different car owners in Kuwait to involve all owners of all kinds of cars and the youth under an official umbrella to showcase their hobbies. Zakaria Dashti, the Director of Media Committee, said, ?We are pleased with the performance of the Museum and what it has achieved in such a short time. We hope that the museum will also be able to encourage other automotive sectors in Kuwait.? He said the museum was a key player in disseminating knowledge about automobiles and automobile industry across the globe through cooperation with international manufacturers of cars, as well as automotive design companies from all over the world.

He also expressed the hope that the Museum could soon be cooperating with other museums in the Middle East and the rest of the world. The museum houses many historical, vintage and classic cars, including the most important car ?The Minerva?. This Belgium made car was the first one to come to Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf?s history. In addition to the Amirs of Kuwait Cars, starting with Lincoln Continental or ?The Constitution Car? that belongs to the late Amir Sheikh Abdulla Al-Salem Al-Sabah (god bless his soul), Cadillac Fleetwood of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah (May God bless his soul), Chrysler Imperial or The ?Prince of Hearts? car of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah (May God bless his soul) during the time when he was governor of Al-Ahmedy, and an armored Mercedes-Benz that belonged to ?The Hero of Liberation? the late Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdulla Al-Salem Al-Sabah (May God bless his soul).

The Museum also houses a car that belonged to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (May God bless him), and it is one of the rarest Rolls-Royce Coupe that was made, since there were only three made of that model, and the one on display at the Museum is the only one that people anywhere in the world can see.

The museum also exhibits some cars from elite car collectors in Kuwait who like to display their rare collections. Also, the collection includes internationally known cars such as the Secret Agent ? James Bond 007 Aston Martin DB5 car that he used in his movies, in addition to many distinctive and historical cars.

(AP) ? Paul Ryan is preparing for his debate against Vice President Joe Biden, a seasoned lawmaker who has been sparring over public policy since the Wisconsin congressman was learning how to talk.

The Republican vice presidential nominee is confident he can handle questions about federal spending and taxes when he faces Biden in Kentucky on Thursday. On international affairs, though, Ryan is a bit more nervous.

Ryan typically is called on to explain his party's domestic policy; Biden is a foreign policy heavyweight for Democrats.

Ryan's biggest worry is looking unprepared to face Biden. He's been practicing intensely with a handful of trusted advisers and studying from a pair of thick briefing books he's been hauling around.

Troika Demands New Emergency Tax or Scrap of Bonuses in ...

    Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Economy

?I think, we are spectators of a?paranoia?developing at full speed here.?Greek?Finance Ministry and the Troika are at odds over a ?555-million payment that Greek banks are due to make to the state by the end of the year. The Troika discovered a hole of 500 million euro plus 55 million euro in interests rates in the budget 2012. This hole was dug from the aid the banks received in 2008.

The Troika demanded that the banks won?t give back this amount, but that?equivalent measures such a new emergency taxes or scrap the holiday bonuses of 1,000 euro for civil servants will be imposed.?

Talks between the Greeks and the Troika ended on Thursday morning in a deadlock with ?Alternate Finance Minister Staikouras threatening with resignation,? as Greek media reported.

I don?t know for whom Staikouras? resignation would be ?a threat?? certainly?not for us, neither for the Troika, I?d dare say.

?Finance Ministry and the troika are at odds over a 555-million-euro payment that Greek banks are due to make to the state by the end of the year.

The amount is the dividend on preferential shares that the Greek state owns in the banks following a capital injection of 5 billion euros into the lenders in 2008.

However, the troika is arguing that the amount needed to recapitalize Greek banks will rise if the dividend is paid and that the process should be stopped.

This would mean the Finance Ministry taking a hit of 555 million euros to the revenues it planned to raise this year and having to find the money from somewhere else.

The troika has proposed that Greece either look to increase revenues through new or increased taxes or scrap the holiday payments of 1,000 euros for civil servants from this year, rather than 2013 as had been planned.

The Finance Ministry is said to have strongly opposed the troika?s demands on Wednesday and sources said that Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras offered to resign if Greece?s lenders do not back down.

Talks between the two sides are due to resume on Thursday afternoon.? (ekathimerini)

+++ Sources from the banking sector told?Proto Thema, that the banks told the gvoernment that a way will be sorted out within the next weeks . ?The solution will be on the technical level, so that this amount won?t be deducted from the own capitals of the banks.?

PS the issue is very complicated and surpasses my legal, technical and?mental health?knowledge.

5 Ways to Check Your Online Reputation

This is a guest post by Peter Nevins.

You have traffic, but no leads. What could be the problem? Maybe your online reputation is killing you. From bad reviews to malicious forum posts to negative word of mouth, your reputation precedes you for good or for ill.

The only way to increase sales, when this happens, is to tackle the issue head on. But first, you have to find the problem. Then you have to fix it. Here?s how to do it.

    Play Detective On the Internet

Find out where all the negativity is coming from. Google is excellent for this kind of thing. Search for your business (or your name) and append the words ?scam,? ?review,? ?problems,? or ?issues? to the search query. These should turn up anything on the Internet that is written about you in a negative light where someone claims to have been taken advantage of by you.

For forum posts and other word of mouth press, use your company name and append it with words like ?forum,? ?blog,? ?Facebook,? or ?Twitter? to catch major social media sites, blogs, and forums. Or use these tools to monitor your reputation online.

    Engage Bad Press

If you find any serious complaints, address those. It?s worth the effort to sign up to a forum or respond to a blog post and engage your antagonists. It?s especially worth it if the allegations are untrue.

Many times, people might feel like they were ripped off if you gave poor service or they felt like they didn?t get everything they expected. It happens. You can?t please everyone. What you can do is offer to make things right in their eyes. Even if they reject your offer, that kind of engagement will show other people that you do care about your customers.

Always be civil and business-like in your responses to negative comments. This gives you the moral high ground and allows honest engagement. Remember, other people on the forum might believe an allegedly wronged customer over you without ever hearing your side of the story. It will look worse if you post something unprofessional or defensive.

    Use Negative Testimonials as Bait

Collect negative comments that seem far-fetched and ?out there.?

Many people who complain about a company do so in poor taste. Create a special section on your site that highlights all of the negative comments that seem too ridiculous for a rational person to believe, then juxtapose those negative comments with positive comments. If you?re offering stellar service, it will show through in the positive comments.

In this way, you?re not hiding the fact that you get negative press. You?re just illustrating how irrational the negativity is while simultaneously showing off what your best customers really think of you. It?s a controversial strategy, because few businesses want anyone to know that someone doesn?t like them.

The truth is that everyone complains about someone. Don?t hide from it. Embrace it, and show potential customers that you?re not afraid. While it might seem counter-intuitive, it has a way of increasing sales.

    Create Good Press

Good press will help to counter bad press.

Give interviews, write gust blog posts, encourage satisfied customers to leave positive feedback for you on review sites. Don?t write fake reviews, but rather promote the good reviews that you do get. Fake reviews often come off as being, well, fake.

This doesn?t mean that you can?t do press releases, or interview satisfied customers. By publishing good press, you may be able to overwhelm the negative reviews. People tend to give weight to the number of bad reviews vs. good reviews on the Internet.

It doesn?t matter that most of your customers are satisfied. If you have three bad reviews, but only one good review published online, it makes it look like you offer shoddy service.

    Use SEO

SEO, or ?search engine optimization,? is a way to make your website better for visitors and for search engines. Good SEO focuses on high-quality content but another element of SEO is building good-quality backlinks to your site.

If you do everything you can do to promote your site through links, Google may rank your site high in the search engines for your niche. If you do a good job linking to positive reviews and good press, there is an excellent chance that it will push negative press down in the search engine results pages.

This kind of SEO strategy has been used by some large companies to hide the fact that they offer poor quality products and services. However, if you use it honestly, and responsibly, you can minimize the effect of lies and nonsensical ramblings about your company thus polishing your image.

    In Conclusion?

Regardless of what you do, negative press won?t go away. The goal should be to minimize the impact of negativity and balance out the bad with some good. If you can create a compelling reason why the negative press should be ignored, your traffic will start converting for you.

Bahamian Recording Artist Appointed Talent Scout For US Music ...

With so much competition in the music industry, recording artist and marketer Margaret ?Believe? Glynatsis? recent appointment as A&R Director of Veal-Steen Music Publishing-Bahamas division may very well be the key that local artists have been waiting for.

Ms. Glynatsis will head the Bahamas talent search for the music label and provide consultation for Bahamian artists and musicians by using their songs in local territories, wherever possible.

?Exposure, opportunity, knowledge?no one has ever offered this to Bahamian musicians and delivered. Focus has always been on getting signed to a music label, and we forget about the business aspect and how musicians can benefit from it,? Ms Glynatsis said.

Veal-Steen Music Publishing, which recently signed Dancehall queen Patra, is a division of LGN Entertainment Distribution Inc., as a premier independent music publisher, licensing, royalty collection, publishing administration and music placement company.

Based in Melbourne, Florida, Veal-Steen manages a portfolio of song copyrights, spanning all genres of popular music.

CEO, Steve Lane said that Veal Steen Music Publishing was proud to add Ms Glynatsis? ?drive and passion? to the team.

Founder and President of eSounds Marketing, Ms. Glynatsis is one half of the popular Bahamian female group NCity. As a songwriter and producer for about six years, she has worked with artists such as Sketch, TaDa and El Padrino.

She enjoyed a music career that most up and coming artists take years to cultivate, that is, until a Veal Steen executive discovered her music on YouTube.

An email and a few days later, she was signed to a three-year deal as a songwriter and producer, becoming the first Bahamian to sign to the record label.

?I felt proud, knowing that my hard work over the years was finally paying off. It felt great to be able to share that with the ones I love and those who supported me from day one,? Ms. Glynatsis said.

Since signing with Veal-Steen, Ms. Glynatsis has a larger network, portfolio and platform to showcase her music.

She said there was always someone to answer her questions about copyrights and publishing and job listings to submit her music for major movie productions, television networks and ad agencies. Now, her appointment allows Bahamian artists the same opportunities.

?If you?re up for a film project, we?ll make sure to get you the best possible licencing fee. If you need a top-notch writing collaborator, we?re the matchmakers of music publishing. If you?ve got an album coming out, a single or a record, we?ll see it gets to the film companies to drop into their latest production. If you have a small or mid-size label or film production company, our services are varied and unlimited, from administration and royalty disbursement to soundtrack album services and music supervision,? she said.

Veal-Steen Music Publishing works with the top music supervisors to place music on Fox Sports, ShowTime, MTV, Disney, HBO, USA, TNT, Lions Gate, Miramax, Univision, Hot Import Nights, One Life to Live, ABC, Television, 20 Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Life Time, Paramount Dream Works, Sony Pictures, NBC, The Young and The Restless, CSI New York, SCI Crime Scene Investigation, Entourage, Tyler Perry and many more.
